I close my eyes
And seek to dream
A dream of paradise,
Of crystal skies
And calming seas,
A world where mankind
Is united as one,
Where angels touch
Our very souls,
Bringing hope and peace
To humanity.

Yet, when I close my eyes,
I see only war,
Hardship,
Suffering.
I hear the distant cries
Of those who paid the price.
The soldiers who were shot,
The sailors who perished,
The children whose ashen eyes
Looked up to darkened skies -
and I ask myself
Why?

Nice to have you pop in again, Lynn, and with such an appropriate piece, thanks,

somehow our rememberance poems became scattered into various other forums when I was not well,

but this year, I think it would be nice to resurrect and then bring it back to the fore each November, Zy x

Lynn nice to see you, to see you nice.
Lynn it always brings tears to my eyes at this time remembering the sacrifice many gave to give us the life we have now.
Never should they ever be forgotten...Why, well we know only too well why, the fight against wrong.
But the question of why it was all started still remains...Tony (potleek)

No problem, Zy - and thanks for moving my poem. I agree. It would be nice to see the Remembrance board being used again. I spent part of last night in here, reading our old poems of remembrance. There's an absolute wealth of poetry in here!
Glad you liked my poem.

Lynn

Thanks Maria. I have to admit that it's good to be back, although I don't know how long I'll be back for, as I have a busy few weeks coming up.
I'm enjoying catching up on the poetry while I can, though.

By the way, this is a brand new poem. I wrote it just a couple of days ago, in time for this year's remembrances. Glad you enjoyed, though.
