I’m Just Me

Who am I?

Good question.

But I doubt the answer will be as interesting as the question!

Born at an early age in Baghdad.

During the war;

The war to end all wars,

Except it didn’t.

Polish father and a Welsh mother,

No sister, no brother,

Oh, poor lonely, only child!

The child that never smiled,

Except I did!

Returned over sand to The Holy Land,

In Jerusalem played

While my Mother prayed

Christened in the church in Bethlehem.

I grew up

With a love of all things natural,

Animals, but particularly, birds.

Until the age of fifteen

I wanted to be a farmer.

School holidays were spent

With my favourite Aunt

Who had a little cottage in Somerset,

Bordering two farms,

Heaven.

So anyway, I became a marine engineer.

Such is life – who knows how or why?

Reasoning lost in the mists of time.

I don’t enjoy conflict,

Could be a clue in there!

Unless I feel really strongly about something,

I’m likely to take the path of least resistance.

Bit of a character flaw there.

Political leanings just slightly to the right

Of Genghis Khan.

So who am I?

 I’m just me,

Walking to the beat of my own, offbeat drum.

What am I?

About four pence worth of chemicals.

Is there more?

Who knows?

Perhaps the question should be…

Why am I?

I love the biographical element to this dad, truly interesting, what is the saying "each experience is a thread in the tapestry of life" ... hence why yours reads so richly. You might be a little offbeat but I wouldnt have my dad any other way!! the things you know and have read, shame there are not more of us (with better memories too) to be able to share it all with. I should have had a lot more children for the both of you, with the knowledge you both have on such a variety of topics x

David I enjoyed the tale of yourself, perhaps we don't always become what we thought we would be. They say life is what we make it, but that's not quite true for often it's what others make for us...Tony (potleek)

David, oh David, you still question yourself when you have accomplished so much....

A wonderful insight into what makes you tick  and "Why".....?

"But, why are you?" Well.... so you could make certain folk glad they have met you,

or even become a part of you,    I like this in all it's honesty, Les x
