When they brought him into the hospital tent, he was nearing the end. They didn’t think he would last through the night. He had been badly wounded and had lost a lot of blood. It so happened that one of the nurses had the same Blood type, she gave him what he needed. She stayed close to him after that. Something niggled at her, she felt she had to stay, hold his hand and pray.

He clung to her as though he was ship wrecked and drowning. He called out orders to his men,
“Stay low, keep down and don’t let them see you.” He was delirious and in a bad way.

She felt his hold on her loosen a little, then he stopped calling out. Soon he quieted down and was sleeping comfortably.

She must have fallen asleep. She felt someone stroking her face and hair. She looked up to see him staring at her. “What’s your name miss?”

She responded, “Sister Kate”… she saw a faint smile cross his lips.

She would check up on him to see how he was doing. He got stronger and was sitting up one day when she went in.

“How can I repay you for all you’ve done? He asked her.

“Nothing, she said, just get well.”

They found a bonding that was rare. He didn’t ask anything of her and neither she of him.

Maybe they would meet again after the war. Who knows, what the future would bring?

The End.

I had it in the back of my mind. It niggled until I wrote it. So glad you liked. Thanks for the kind review. Yes, it could be true.
