The death of a soldier

I could never remember my father, he was sent overseas during the war and never came back, all mother ever got was a telegram saying he had been killed in action.

But mother brought us through it all, father was never forgotten, there were always photographs of him, and quite often we would get the family album out, there were many stories about father, so it was almost like knowing him, even though he was no longer with us.

Time never changed the picture of him in my mind, having said that, time is a very strange thing, it’s something I can’t explain nor can I explain what happened to me.

I was in the garden at the rear of the house, I don’t know if I had fallen asleep or had some how walked through a barrier or portal into another time.

Wow Tony, it was awesome, the imagery was so real. I felt I was in the midst of the scene. Loved the tale. Great read.

Absolutely, Tony, this is one of your best, I was lost in the fields

and almost jumped back as the figure appeared, great atmospherics

with detailed dimensional build up, short but excellent, Zy

Maria, Zy thank you for reading and commenting, this is a story I've held back for a while but I thought it was about time I really got back to stories in some way.
I don't know what it is but of late I think some of my stories are getting shorter, it might stem from the writing group I attend.
We only meet for a couple of hours on a Wednesday morning so time is limited and any writing we do has to be short for everyone to read out their work.
But in a way I've probably wrote that way a kind of get into the plot quick and not fill pages of stuff that doesn't really matter.
Who cares what colour the curtains or wall paper was or what kind of carpet was on the floor it doesn't always add to the story, I think you have to leave something to the readers imagination.
Perhaps that's why I could never sit down and write a novel...short and sweet...Thanks again...Tony (potleek)

Oh Tony - i'm so very sorry for you loss

your father is a hero - an honoured person waging an honoured cause

i know you know this - yet nothing anyone can say can stem the longing for your dad

i have known many brave soldiers - i miss many dear friends i've lost - yet none are blood relations  - i can't imagine your loss

i am so very sorry Tony

best,
mikhail

Mikhail I dearly thank you for the sentiments but you see none of my stories are true or about me.
Poetry perhaps yes I might and I repeat might just put a little of me in them.
99.9% of what I write is pure imagination, so I can go anywhere and do anything in what I write.
I think if you could find a little time some time just to visit the story section you'd be amazed at the amount of pleasure you can get from just being in there and I'm sure you have enough tales that you could tell you'd even try posting in them.
But once again I thank you for taking the time to read and comment...Tony (potleek)

Mikhail no problems, in fact it's more of a compliment when someone thinks that a poem or a story is factual. thanks again...Tony (potleek)
