The Will of Granddad

When winter draws in and the nights turn dark much earlier, there’s a certain kind of quietness that seems to envelope around me. I quite often draw the long curtains and turn to lighting a log fire in the fireplace in the front room.

The smell of newly cut logs fills the air and my lungs and head with nostalgic memories. That smell of pine always takes me back to my childhood when granddad used to cut his own logs, the warmth of the sun would make the air heavy with the smell of resin.

Another super read, Tony, you do do this style of writing so well....

loved the sentiments and even though I'd kinda guessed a little bit,

you presented with that lovely ending when the words are just right, Zy

Tony - i met both my granddads before they passed - i'm super happy i did - they were very different people - from different sides of the 'track' - one most gruff the other most kind - so this resonates on a very personal level - i miss both - but the kind one gave me so much that i cannot replace thanks again for sharing best, m

Zy, The writing group I'm attached to at the moment I get accused of telling and not showing. So with this piece I tried a little more of the showing...but it was the type of story that the end had to come earlier than the last paragraph or so, so I had to end it on a pleasant note and a gentle finish...Tony (potleek) Mikhail although I remember both my grandfathers, one passed away when I was very young so I have hardly any memories of him. But grandparents are important, some times we find that out when it's too late. But what memories we have of them we have to cherish them...Tony (potleek)

I am at a disadvantage here, since I never met one of my Grandfathers and the other died when I was seven a year after meeting me, so their input to my lifes developement was negligable, c'est la vie. Just as well I wasnt in your writing class, Tony

But I met my only grandmother between my age of four until six when she died and that did have an impact so...I can only imagine the memories made, good or bad, are 'part of' what was, regardless, Zy
