Date Posted:06-08-2009 12:33Copy HTML Wraith Just but a pale shadow Ghosting through the real world. Drifting through an artificial sea Of bright, fake eyes and pleasantries. Where only the lips are smiling At the trivial and banal. Where inconsequence alone Is given reverence. The wraith slips through reality, To the dream world it prefers For if such is true reality In dreams it shall remain. The wraith has passed and gone its way And will not pass again. Re:Wraith Date Posted:06-08-2009 12:55Copy HTML I so like this, Gordon, the essence of choice to remain apart....I find superficiality equally empty, this speaks volumes to me, wish I'd written it, thanks, love these writes we share, Zy Opposites exist by virtue of each other

Re:Wraith Date Posted:06-08-2009 01:29Copy HTML Merci, Zy.
The "real" world is full of people prattling on about inane superficialities as if they are important. "Big Brother" - "Reality TV"?? Yeah right... How real can you get? There is always something cleverer than yourself...

Re:Wraith Date Posted:06-08-2009 12:53Copy HTML Just read this again, Gordon, and it really is using metaphor so well.... we have the equivalent of 'Big Brother' over here and by the look of the few glimpses I have caught by mistake...it is just as uninteresting...budget programming has it's price, Zy Opposites exist by virtue of each other

Re:Wraith Date Posted:06-08-2009 01:31Copy HTML Thanks indeed, Zy :) Yes. Big Brother is just one example, isn't it? People seem to place so much value on things that are false these days... If that's real - I'd rather be a wraith! Pleased you liked it - thought it might be your cup of tea:)

Re:Wraith Date Posted:08-08-2009 09:52Copy HTML So descriptive of the shallowness nowadays ...if you don't spend half your time glued to the tv, then you are often left adrift in general conversation ....however, as Steve says, mention you 'do' poetry ...and you could hear the proverbial pin drop!
I like this (except I don't like 'Just but' in the first line ...getting picky ain't I) Jen (I really have to stop using quick reply and having to edit life is only as good as you allow it to be

Re:Wraith Date Posted:12-08-2009 09:16Copy HTML Sadly true, Jen. I only ever get to discuss poetry online. It seems to be an art that is very much out of favour with the public in general. Lol! It is a great way to kill a boring conversation though. Mention poetry, and the borer will quickly find someone else to witter away to about what they watched on the telly last night. It'd be interesting to know if everyone has the same experience of this. Thank you kindly:) Gordon PS - You're spot on about that "but" - I'll remove it tomorrow if I get a chance to skive;) Ta! Re:Wraith Date Posted:12-08-2009 09:22Copy HTML Thanks, Fluff. The sense of apartness can be quite dislocating/distancing when you become aware of it. I think that's where the idea of the wraith came from. As poets, we generally tend to think about things beyond the superficial, and it can be disturbing when we realise that most others do not. So, Yes. I guess there are darker undertones here. Thanks for reading so thoroughly:)
